The Drama Up in the Canopy
High in the lush green foliage of the forest canopy, the morning began like any other for the monkey troop—until young Pip decided it was time to cause a scene.
Pip was a headstrong juvenile monkey who was accustomed to getting whatever he wanted, whether it was the freshest fruit or a comfortable spot next to his mother, Maya. On this particular afternoon, Maya had moved along to forage with the rest of the troop, gently signaling to Pip that it was time to start feeding himself. But Pip wasn’t having any of it.
Determined to get Maya’s immediate attention, Pip scrambled onto a thick branch near the top of a tree. He let out a piercing screech, clinging to the trunk and shaking the leaves violently. He stomped his feet, flapped his arms, and rolled onto his back, kicking his legs into the air in a full-blown tantrum. The rest of the troop looked up briefly, thoroughly unimpressed by the theatrical display, before returning to their foraging.
Agitated that his performance wasn’t rallying a crowd, Pip escalated. He screamed louder, beat his small chest against the bark, and thrashing wildly from side to side. Up on the branch, his rage reached a peak.
He worked himself into such a frenzy—screaming, flailing, and clinging to the bark with all his might—that his tiny body completely gave in to the exhaustion and emotion of the outburst. Right in the middle of his peak screech, Pip couldn’t hold it in any longer and ended up peeing right off the branch into the forest below.
Exhausted, dripping, and thoroughly out of breath, Pip finally quieted down, sitting on the branch with a sheepish look as the forest slowly returned to its peaceful quiet.
