A Tiny Baby Just Wants to Be Safe — Growing Up Under a Very Young Mother’s Harsh Discipline
This very young mother monkey is trying to raise her tiny baby the best way she knows how, always keeping him close and protecting him from danger. But she is still so young herself, and sometimes she seems unable to control her temper.
Whenever her tiny baby asks for milk, she may respond harshly. Instead of patiently letting him nurse, she bites him to make him stop. At times, she pulls him along the road, scolds him, and even strikes at him until the frightened little baby becomes completely silent. High in the trees, when he reaches for her again, she may bite him once more to remind him of her rules.
Poor little baby doesn’t understand why his mother is so harsh. He is tiny, hungry, skinny, and still completely dependent on her. His only way of asking for what he needs is to cry, cling to his mother, and search for milk and comfort. Sometimes his tears fall as he cries so hard, desperately hoping that his mother will soften and hold him close.
Watching him struggle is heartbreaking.
But this little baby is not being difficult on purpose. He is simply following the instincts that keep a young infant alive. He wants to stay close to his mother, stay safe, feel her warmth, and satisfy the hunger that his tiny body cannot ignore.
And perhaps his young mother is still learning too.
She looks almost too young to have a baby of her own. She may not yet have learned how to patiently handle all of her baby’s needs, especially when his desire to nurse conflicts with the limits she is trying to establish.
As the little one grows older, he will gradually begin to understand her rules and become more independent. There may still be difficult moments whenever his hunger and desire for nursing collide with his mother’s changing schedule, but those struggles can be part of the long process of growing up.
For now, he is only a tiny baby trying to survive, stay close to his mother, and find the comfort and nourishment he needs.
He isn’t trying to break the rules—he is simply following every instinct he has to stay alive, safe, and free from hunger.
